Participating companies

Here is an overview of the companies participating in the 2025 regional discovery boxes.

Meet our 2025 ambassadors!

The regional discovery box ambassadors are residents of the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr who have received an organ or tissue transplant. They are beacons of hope and support our cause in their region.

Thanks to them, our fundraising campaign takes on its full meaning. This year, they generously gave us their time by sharing their stories. Take the time to read their biographies and learn about their experiences.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

In 2020, following an accident, I had part of my left hand amputated. My thumb was replanted at the CHUM. But due to complications, the team at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, supervised by Dr. Dominique Tremblay, reconstructed my left hand using a graft of flaps, skin, and nerves. In March 2024, I had to receive a second nerve graft to provide protective sensitivity to my hand. That’s when we learned about its existence, which made our lives much easier! The Maison des greffés Lina Cyr supports both the transplant patient and their companion and is well aware of our needs. In fact, Isabelle greatly appreciated the Maison’s little touches, such as offering her a lunch box that she brings when I’m hospitalized, which makes things easier for her and allows her to not miss the doctor’s appointment!

Today, we want to give back by getting involved in the cause of transplant recipients. We are proud to be ambassadors for our region, supporting other people in Abitibi-Témiscamingue who need or will need the services of the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr.

Chaudière-Appalaches

My name is Alexandre-Sacha Leblond and I am originally from Thetford Mines in Chaudière-Appalaches. My life has taken me across much of Quebec, both educationally and professionally. With a degree in Civil Engineering, I began my career in Nunavik. I also worked as a freelance consultant for several years. In recent years, I haven’t had it easy (family, professional, and ultimately health-wise). I apologize; alcoholism didn’t help.

I’ve been sober for two years now, and I was miraculously saved by my liver transplant on May 18th. The operation, preparation, and follow-up by the CHUM are exceptional. Furthermore, the miracle of the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr is even more appreciated. Now, I truly have a wonderful second chance. My daughters and I will always be grateful.

Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Let me introduce myself: Francine Plusquellec, 49 years old, from Paspébiac in the Gaspé Peninsula. Here’s how my story begins. In 1986, at the age of 10, I was often tired, thin, and lacking in energy. So my mother decided to consult my family doctor. Very concerned about my condition, he decided to transfer me to the Gaspé hospital, 2.5 hours from my home, where there was a gastroenterologist. I had to be hospitalized for the necessary tests, so they concluded, after a liver biopsy, to refer me to Sainte-Justine Hospital. After numerous tests and days of hospitalization, the verdict was in: autoimmune hepatitis with cirrhosis. But in 1986, transplants weren’t as common as they are today, so the doctor told my mother that one day I would need a transplant.

At 26, I was on the waiting list for a liver transplant… During all this time and until I was 31, I was on medication, including prednisone. But one day when I couldn’t take the complications anymore, my partner decided to take me to the CHUM. I waited 5 years on the waiting list with a padget, days and nights, seven days a week, hospitalized. I was a priority, one day in May 2007. That’s it, a liver was presented to me, finally!! But by becoming diabetic, unfortunately in 2020 I had Covid and then my kidneys failed. Two years of trying to control myself with medication, but in 2022 I started dialysis 3 days a week for 4 hours at each treatment. I had to travel 8 hours round trip to receive my treatments in Rimouski. I had to fight hard to get a chair at the hospital near our home. I had to talk to the media, the radio, the MP, the minister. I got a chair and had hemodialysis treatments until 2025… Finally, the phone rang last April, ring ring!!!

-Mrs. Plusquellec..

-YES!

-We have a kidney for you.!!!

Bingo! My life is finally going to change. Freedom is about to begin, and I’m going to breathe a little life… All this to say that based on my life path, people aren’t really aware of organ donation yet, to the point of realizing the importance of a loved one who needs it. But for us recipients, it’s a second life, a hope, an opportunity, a blessing! We are reborn!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart❤️ for giving importance to organ donation💚, a gift of life!

Mauricie

I was diagnosed with COPD shortly before the age of 50. The disease progressed to the point where, at age 63, I required several consecutive hospitalizations, including two with intubation. My pulmonologist informed me that I might not survive another infection and that the only option open to me was a transplant. With his help, we began the process with the CHUM transplant clinic. During our first meetings with the transplant team, I was immediately reassured by their professionalism. It was also at this time that I learned about the Lina Cyr Transplant Center.

From then on, the situation became much less complicated for my partner and me. Having such a service at my disposal exceeded my expectations. My stay at the Lina Cyr Transplant Center was marked by a special atmosphere. We felt at home from the very start, and the staff were remarkably kind, striving to make our stay enjoyable. On June 11, 2025, I received my lung transplant, and so far, everything is going very well. I can walk and talk at the same time, which is a true miracle for me. I am deeply grateful to the transplant clinic team and all the employees at the Lina Cyr Transplant Center. Thanks to you, everything has been easier.

Douglas Mitchell

Shawinigan.

A few years ago, after a visit to the doctor and a routine blood test, I was diagnosed with liver disease. A rare, degenerative, and incurable condition with an unknown cause. The prognosis is fatal unless the liver is replaced. The wait for a transplant is long and physically arduous. Months of hope turn into years, the body weakens, and all the organs deteriorate: kidneys, lungs, heart… Life becomes extremely difficult and undesirable. Weakness and exhaustion are daily occurrences. The pain is intense and unpredictable. The worst part of pain is expecting it to increase. You have to live with it one moment at a time, letting it flow like a river flowing through you, without fearing in advance that the current will increase.

The progressive deterioration of my abilities has caused me infections, injuries, and several periods of hospitalization with trips to the operating room. The Maison des greffés (Transplant Center) was the resource that helped my wife and I get through these difficult times. It made it possible for my wife to be with me every day during these times. No longer able to work and with a significant monthly medical bill to pay, we couldn’t have afforded hotel accommodations or restaurant meals during the time we had to stay close to the hospital. Beyond these considerations, the staff at the Maison des greffés was always warm, compassionate, and empathetic. They all came together to support my wife in her grief and attend to our needs. They strengthened my resilience.

It’s a miracle to see each new day dawn, to be alive to marvel at it.
