The story of Lina Cyr

Founded by a transplant recipient for transplant recipients, the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr was established on September 25, 1994, thanks to the efforts and perseverance of Mrs. Lina Cyr.

During her liver transplant process, she met many patients from remote areas who had to stay for many months, at great expense, far from their homes and families, even before receiving a transplant.

It is after much effort and determination and with the precious collaboration and complicity of Dr. Pierre Daloze, head of the transplant unit at Notre-Dame Hospital at the time, that Lina Cyr founded the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr.

An adventure that encompasses more than 29 years of perseverance, effort and support.

Since its foundation, the only one of its kind in North America, more than 31,000 patients throughout Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario and Nova Scotia have been able to meet the beautiful family of the Maison des greffés Lina Cyr.

Our mission is to house and help people from the regions of Quebec who are waiting for a transplant or who have received one.

The Maison des greffés Lina Cyr provides a safe transition period between the hospital and the family environment after surgery. It aims to encourage exchanges between patients who share the same experience and allows them to be accompanied by a loved one who also benefits from affordable accommodation.

The Maison des greffés plays a crucial role in the Quebec health care system as a reassuring and safe environment. It considerably reduces the length of stay in hospital by providing an environment of sharing and encouragement between residents and family members who wish to support their loved one.

Guiding principles

  • To welcome patients from all regions of Quebec, especially those from remote areas.
  • To encourage the presence of a family member or companion with each transplant patient in order to promote a faster recovery.
  • To offer a warm and safe humane environment, conducive to exchanges between patients who share the same realities and hopes.
  • To maintain very affordable costs, in order to alleviate the financial worries of patients who are already going through difficult times.
  • To establish high standards at all levels in order to consolidate the official recognition of the fundamental role of la Maison in Quebec society.
